The Spring 2016 All-Star Game was incredible! NYC FC and star defender RJ Allen took in the game and brought some SWAG, and it was a tight game throughout. Hamzah Alnasser opened the scoring for the Gotham Greens midway through the first half with a laser beam strike to the lower corner. And it was 2-0 shortly thereafter thanks to a fluke own goal. But Brad Ferrada got one back for the Gothan Grays just before halftime when he chested down a Scott Strycharz cross and provided a tidy finish.
The second half was even tighter, but the Greens went up 3-1 on a golazo by Alex Wasileswki when he beat two players with one deft touch and a third with pace before a nice side-footed finish. Still, the Grays didn't let the game get away, and Gareth Chan took a pass from Jeff Kaufman and curled a stunner into the far corner to get one back. Then Elliott Townsend pounced on a mistake in the back and slid home the game-tying goal with under ten minutes to play.
It looked like we were heading for penalties, but as stoppage time approached, Sherief El-Helaifi took a through ball around the keeper to tap in the winning goal. Daniel Taylor, who held it down the entire game in the midfield for the Greens, was named game MVP.
Thanks to everyone who came out! It was a fantastic season. Now, on to the Championship games next week..
